In 1977 a Dwarika’s hotel was built incorporating the old woodcarvings in the traditional style. This hotel started with 10 rooms is now one with 80 unique rooms. The need to bring visitors for the economy and the development of the old skills was the main purpose of this. The old skill of carving in wood and stone was dying, as there was no market. The Hotel Dwarika’s has now become a landmark and an example for people in heritage preservation through tourism. The hotel has won PATA Heritage Award and many prestigious other Awards. Its workshop works on restoring the broken rotten and discarded wood carving places.
